Jamshedpur, Mar 5: Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran reaffirmed the group’s strong commitment to Jamshedpur, emphasizing that the Steel City remains central to Tata’s legacy and future growth.

Speaking to the media after paying homage to Founder Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata on his 186th birth anniversary at the Works General Office of Tata Steel in Jamshedpur, Chandrasekaran underscored the group’s deep-rooted connection with the city. “The group’s journey began in Jamshedpur and our commitment to this city is very strong. We will continue to strengthen Jamshedpur and remain an integral part of the community. You are our family,” he stated.

He reiterated that Tata Sons’ focus remains on Jamshedpur’s development, with continuous efforts to elevate Tata Steel and create new employment opportunities. “The foundation of Tata Steel was laid here and it is our priority to take Jamshedpur forward. We will remain committed to its growth,” he added.

Chandrasekaran also hinted at fresh investments in Jamshedpur to spur economic growth and generate employment, reaffirming Tata Sons’ dedication to the city’s progress.
Reflecting on the legacy of Ratan Tata and the company’s future growth strategies, Chandrasekaran expressed his emotions about the occasion. “This is the first time we are celebrating Founder’s Day without Ratan Tata. He has inspired all of us and his inspiration will guide us as we continue to progress in business and contribute to society,” he stated.
Highlighting Tata Steel’s growth, Chandrasekaran emphasized that the company is advancing not just in business but also in technology. With artificial intelligence (AI) transforming industries, Tata Steel is committed to embracing this change to remain an iconic company. “Tata Steel is continuing to grow and with AI reshaping industries, we are committed to making this transformation,” he said.
Chandrasekaran also spoke about the increasing demand for steel, stressing the importance of expanding production. “The demand for steel will continue to grow and the best way to address this is by maintaining efficiency, managing costs and increasing productivity,” he stated.
When asked about the on-going debate on tariffs, Chandrasekaran dismissed speculation over price fluctuations. “There is no point in discussing tariffs; we have to focus on our productivity,” he asserted.
Responding to a question about China’s dumping policy, Chandrasekaran assured that Tata Steel is focused on efficiency and will work closely with the government. “We will talk with the government and we have to be efficient,” he said. He emphasized that bold decision-making by management is crucial for the company’s sustained growth.
To boost efficiency and create employment, Tata Group is making significant investments in AI. “AI will be used for the country and Tata will utilize it as data for itself. How it should be implemented in operations is under consideration,” he explained.
Chandrasekaran also highlighted Tata Group’s entry into high-tech industries, including semiconductor manufacturing. “Tata is investing in many sectors, including a semiconductor chip plant in Gujarat and another in Assam,” he noted. The company is also expanding into battery manufacturing, 5G technology and mobile technology.
Additionally, Chandrasekaran shared details of Tata’s involvement in medical research, particularly at the Indian Institute of Science, focusing on diseases that currently have no cure in India.
Reflecting on Tata Steel’s journey, he acknowledged the company’s resilience through challenges. “Tata Steel has faced many ups and downs but has always moved forward strongly. However, we must continuously improve productivity at lower costs through new production technology,” he remarked.
