Jamshedpur, Dec 5 : The Rs 284-crore redevelopment of Tatanagar Railway Station has entered a decisive phase, with detailed land measurement and mapping activities kicking off on Thursday across the station premises and surrounding zones.

Officials conducting the survey also flagged multiple encroached sections, which are expected to be removed in the upcoming phase of the project.

Under the modernisation plan, a new three-storey building will come up near the second entry, alongside the addition of five new platforms to enhance capacity and streamline train operations.

The project, formally launched last month with a bhoomi pujan ceremony attended by Railway GM A.K. Mishra, Chakradharpur DRM Arun Huriya and Jamshedpur MP Bidyut Baran Mahto, is poised to transform the station’s profile.

Currently an A-category station, Tatanagar is slated for an upgrade to A-Plus status after completion, featuring improved passenger amenities, better traffic flow, heightened safety features and contemporary infrastructure.

With rising footfall and increased long-distance rail movement, the redevelopment is seen as a major infrastructural boost for Jamshedpur and the region.

Tatanagar railway station assumes significance as it falls on the Howrah -Mumbai main line.

On an average over 40 pairs of mail, express and other passenger trains originate and pass through the railway station which boasts of several facilities.
