Jamshedpur: Villagers in large number blocked the railway track at Bisra station under the Chakradharpur division on the Howrah-Mumbai main railway route, from 6:45 am on Monday.
Protests by villagers on both up and down railway tracks have halted the operation of trains along this route, compounding the challenges faced by railway passengers and administrators alike.
Notably, passenger trains at Bisra station had been discontinued since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, cutting off the local population, including residents of remote rural areas, from connectivity to other cities.
Even prior to the pandemic, express and passenger trains halted at Bisra station. Villagers are demanding the reinstatement of these services. This has generated significant dissatisfaction among villagers towards the railway administration.
The protesting villagers, who have blocked the railway track, are vocal in their discontent with the railway administration’s approach. They are demanding stoppages of express and passenger train services at Bisra station as they were before.
Meanwhile, the rail chakka jam has severely disrupted the movement of passenger trains along the Howrah-Mumbai route.
As a result of the protests, several trains have been halted at Chakradharpur, Manoharpur, and Rourkela stations under the Chakradharpur Railway Division.
Railway passengers are experiencing significant disruptions, and railway security forces have been deployed by the administration to address the rail traffic jam.
Meanwhile, South Eastern Railway has decided to regulate several trains in view of public agitation at Bisra Station from 6.45 hours in Chakradharpur Division of South Eastern Railway.
