Jamshedpur, September 19: The redevelopment of Tatanagar station is set to begin soon, with plans to add three new platforms, bringing the total to eight. This expansion, which involves giving up three yard lines, aims to improve the movement of passenger trains and alleviate delays caused by platform shortages.
Currently, many trains are forced to stop at Jugsalai and Salgajhuri due to limited platform availability, causing inconvenience to passengers. The redevelopment project, with an estimated cost of around Rs 400 crore, was initiated with the Prime Minister’s foundation stone laying ceremony. The plan includes new constructions such as flyovers and subways to better connect both gates of the station.

Additionally, the Railway GM announced that the Kavach safety system will be implemented on trains between Kharagpur and Rourkela and Bhadrak via Tatanagar within a year. The South East Zone is preparing to issue tenders for this project. The Kavach system, aimed at enhancing train safety, will also be installed on a 9,000 km network and 10,000 engines over the next three years. The Railway Board is reviewing proposals to extend Kavach from Bilaspur to Jharsuguda, benefiting the Chakradharpur Division as well.
