Jamshedpur: The South Eastern Railway has clarified that the proposed Signature Bridge at Tatanagar station and the Tatanagar Coaching Depot expansion project do not fall under the jurisdiction of its Construction Organisation, and detailed information regarding these projects is not available with that office.
The clarification came in response to a Right to Information (RTI) application filed by Shashank Shekhar Swain on December 30, 2025. The reply was issued on January 16, 2026, by the office of the Chief Administrative Officer (Construction), South Eastern Railway, Garden Reach, Kolkata.
According to the response, since both the Signature Bridge and Coaching Depot expansion are outside the purview of the Construction Organisation, the office is unable to provide project-related details or progress updates.
Progress on Third Line Project
The RTI reply, however, provided updates on other key railway infrastructure works. Under the third rail line project between Adityapur and Salgajhari East, the railway stated that the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) inspection for the Salgajhari East to Salgajhari West section has already been completed.
Train operations under Traffic Density Clearance (TDC) from Salgajhari West to Tata and Adityapur are expected to commence in February 2026, marking a significant step toward easing congestion on this busy route.
Fourth Line Project Gets Phased Approval
The railway further informed that the Santragachi–Jharsuguda fourth rail line project has been approved by the Railway Board in a phased manner. Approval for the Santragachi to Kharagpur section was granted on July 1, 2025, followed by approval for the Kharagpur to Jharsuguda section on October 23, 2025.
Additionally, the Bandamunda–Rourkela and Bagdehi–Jharsuguda sections have already been sanctioned.
No Details on Electric Loco Shed Expansion
On the issue of the proposed expansion of the Tatanagar Electric Loco Shed, railway authorities clarified that this project too does not fall under the Construction Organisation of the South Eastern Railway, and therefore, no information could be provided.
The railway also stated that an earlier reply uploaded inadvertently on the online RTI portal on January 13, 2026, should be treated as invalid.
