Jamshedpur, Sep 15: Railway authorities are working on plans to construct a sub-way under Tatanagar railway station with the view to effectively deal with the impact of growing population and rising number of passengers.

Sources said the engineering and commercial department of Railways has conducted a survey of Station Chowk, Gudri Bazar and Khasmahal Road six months ago and decided to build the proposed sub-way. The sub-way would facilitate exit of passengers directly from the station to the main road. This would reduce crowding at the entry and exit gates of the station. At present, 45 pairs of trains run from Tatanagar station and around 35,000 passengers travel daily from here. The numbers would rise in the next 20 to 25 years, sources said.

At present a foot over bridge (FOB) is also underway to link the platforms. The project would cost around Rs 350 crore, sources said.
