Jamshedpur, Sept. 11 : Tatanagar railway station authorities have zeroed on two acres of land in Khasmahal for disposing off the daily wastes generated by the railway station. The A 1-category railway station generates around 100kg of waste daily.
Station director H. K. Balmuchu said the last two days the wastes collected from the station premises is being disposed off at the new site in Khasmahal.”
� There have been regular complaints over mismanagement in waste treatment. The agency was prompted to dump the trash near the administrative building as residents of Loco Colony, the previous dumping site opposed to the disposal activity,� noted an official.
According to Balmuchu, the Jugsalai Municipality also helped them in identifying the new site for waste disposal. The new dumping site is much big as compared to the previous one.
The new garbage dumping site is about 1.5 Kms away from the railway station. The practice of dumping waste generated from the station at the designated place in Loco Colony was continuing for around eight years. But, the residents started protesting forcing railways to stop the disposal of wastes.
Tatanagar railway station witnesses a daily traffic of over 100- mail, express and passenger trains which either originate from Tatanagar of go via that station. The daily passenger footfall is close to 50,000.
