Tatanagar: Railway police bust inter-State train robbers’ gang, recover stolen goods worth Rs 4 lakhs

Jamshedpur, July 18: Railway Police busted inter-state train robbers’ gang during raids conducted at various locations in Jharkhand and Bengal, resulting in the arrest of three individuals, including a notorious thief. The arrested culprits were identified as Noor Mohammed, his nephew Irfan Ansari, and Aswin Kumar Das, all hailing from Bokaro.

The well-executed operation led to the recovery of stolen laptops, mobile phones, and other valuables with an estimated worth of Rs 4 lakhs. The breakthrough came after one of the victims, Deepak Kumar, lodged a complaint with the GRP Thana, Ranchi, reporting the loss of his bag while travelling on the Howrah-Hatia Express.

Inspector Sanjay Kumar Tiwari, from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Tatanagar, disclosed that during their investigation of the theft cases, they noticed a common face captured in the CCTV footage of both incidents. That face belonged to none other than the notorious thief, Noor Mohammed. Acting on this crucial lead, the railway police kept the stolen mobile phone number under surveillance, which eventually led to the apprehension of the thief at a location in Bankura, West Bengal.

Upon interrogation, the arrested thief, Noor Mohammed, confessed to his modus operandi. He revealed that he preferred to target thefts in air-conditioned coaches during train journeys. The stolen goods were then sold to Aswin Kumar Das, a resident of Bokaro. Notably, Noor Mohammed also admitted to gifting a stolen laptop, manufactured by Apple, to his nephew, Irfan Ansari.

Based on these revelations, the railway police swiftly raided the residences of Aswin and Irfan in Bokaro. Both were subsequently arrested, and the stolen laptops and mobile phones were successfully recovered from their houses.

This operation has brought relief to several victims who fell prey to the notorious thief’s activities. The Railway Protection Force, Tatanagar, is commended for their diligent efforts in apprehending the culprits and ensuring the return of stolen belongings to their rightful owners. The arrested individuals will now face legal proceedings in accordance with the law.
