Tatanagar: Pantry car employee attempts to rape differently-abled woman on Utkal Express, arrested

Chakradharpur, Sep 6: In a shocking incident aboard the Utkal Express, a pantry car employee was arrested for attempting to rape a differently-abled woman passenger in the train’s bathroom. The accused was apprehended by Railway Police upon the train’s arrival at Chakradharpur railway station.

The incident occurred while the train was enroute from Puri in Odisha to Yoganagari Rishikesh. The woman, who is differently-abled, reported that the pantry car employee forcibly entered the bathroom around 2-3 a.m. and attempted to assault her. During the struggle, loud noises were heard, prompting two fellow passengers to intervene. They managed to rescue the woman and notify the Government Railway Police (GRP) upon the train’s arrival at Chakradharpur.

The victim has accused the perpetrator of unnatural sex. The GRP has since arrested the accused and is conducting further investigations into the matter. The prompt response of the fellow passengers and the swift action by the GRP are being lauded as critical in addressing this grave incident.
