Tatanagar Loco under bridge to open by January, benefiting 2 lakh commuters

Jamshedpur: The construction of the Tatanagar Loco Under Bridge is progressing rapidly and is expected to be completed by the end of January 2025, providing much-needed relief to around two lakh residents of the area. This underbridge, situated near Tatanagar Railway Station, has been a long-standing demand for nearly 50 years. Its completion will benefit residents of Makdampur, Loco Colony, Salgajhuri, and nearby areas, who currently face frequent disruptions due to the loco gate being closed for passing trains.

The project has made significant progress, with 86 meters of ring casting completed under the railway track and 150 meters done towards the Khasmahal end. A shaded and illuminated pathway has already been prepared on one side, while a 200-meter pathway is under construction in front of the Area Manager’s office. This work includes digging with JCB machines and casting, with a team of a dozen laborers working under constant supervision by the Railway Engineering Department.

Assistant Divisional Engineer (ADEN), RK Verma, stated, “The underbridge work is progressing rapidly. One side is complete, and the other side will be ready soon. The project will be opened to the public by the end of January.” Dr. Arun Tiwari, General Secretary of the Chotanagpur Passenger Association, expressed satisfaction with the development, saying, “After years of persistent demand, the construction of this underbridge will finally bring relief to thousands of daily commuters in the region. The railways have fulfilled a long-pending need of the local population.”

The underbridge will eliminate the frequent delays caused by the loco gate near the station, which remains closed for extended periods to accommodate passenger and goods trains. Its completion is set to significantly improve connectivity and ease the daily commute for residents, marking a major infrastructural milestone for the area.
