Jamshedpur: Indian Railways has hit a major modernization milestone at Tatanagar Railway Station by introducing advanced LHB (Linke Hofmann Busch) coaches for the Tatanagar–Jayanagar Express and the Tatanagar–Godda Express. This upgrade replaces conventional ICF coaches, significantly boosting passenger safety and ride quality.
Smart Operational Efficiency
To maximize the impact of the new hardware, the Railways implemented a Rake Sharing Arrangement (RSA). This system allows a single high-tech LHB rake to service both routes, reducing idle time and ensuring the modern coaches remain in constant use.
According to railway sources, the inaugural LHB rake will depart Tatanagar for Jayanagar at 6:40 PM this Friday.
Why LHB Coaches Matter
Based on German engineering, LHB coaches offer several critical advantages over older models:
-
Enhanced Safety: The anti-telescopic design prevents coaches from piling up in the event of a collision.
-
Smoother Rides: Advanced shock absorbers and disc brakes minimize jerks, even at higher speeds.
-
Greater Comfort: These coaches provide better sound insulation, more interior space, and improved modular toilets.
A Connectivity Boost
As vital links between Jharkhand and Bihar, these two trains serve thousands of daily commuters and long-distance travelers. Officials believe the transition will not only improve the passenger experience but also enhance punctuality and operational reliability across the regional network.
The move reflects the broader national goal of phasing out outmoded blue ICF coaches in favor of the safer, faster, and more efficient silver-and-red LHB variants.
