Jamshedpur, September 13: The Railways has announced the cancellation of the Tatanagar-Amritsar Jallianwala Bagh Express and the Santragachhi-Anand Vihar Weekly Express due to anticipation of fog. The Jallianwala Bagh Express will be suspended from December 2 to February 28, and the Anand Vihar Weekly Express will be cancelled from December 2 to January 7.
The South Eastern Railway Zone issued this directive on Thursday. Passengers who had booked tickets in advance for these trains will face significant disruptions and will need to cancel their reservations. A total of 26 Jallianwala Bagh Express trips will be affected.
This recurring cancellation of both trains, attributed to fog conditions, has been a pattern since 2022. Last year, the Sikh community, represented by the Central Gurdwara Managing Committee, protested the cancellation, leading the Railway Administration to reverse its decision temporarily.
Narendra Pal Singh Bhatia of Jugsalai Gurdwara criticized the decision, stating that it disproportionately affected passengers from Punjab, Haryana, and Bihar-UP. He questioned why other trains on the same route, such as Purushottam, Rajdhani, Nilanchal, and Sampark Kranti Express, were not being cancelled. Bhatia warned of potential protests at the station if the issue was not addressed.
