Tatanagar: East Singhbhum to receive major connectivity boost with new railway projects worth Rs. 6,294 Crore

Jamshedpur: East Singhbhum district in Jharkhand is set to experience a transformative boost in connectivity and economic growth, thanks to a series of new railway projects approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. These projects, part of a broader initiative by the Ministry of Railways, carry a total estimated cost of Rs. 24,657 crore, with Rs. 6,294 crore specifically allocated for the development of new railway lines in the East Singhbhum region.

The new railway lines are a key component of the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan, a strategic initiative aimed at creating multi-modal connectivity and ensuring the seamless movement of people, goods, and services across India. In East Singhbhum, these projects will not only enhance connectivity but also catalyze economic development, providing the region’s tribal-dominated areas with greater access to resources and markets.

Among the key projects slated for East Singhbhum are the construction of the Badampahar – Kendujhargarh new line (82 km), the Bangriposi – Gorumahisani new line (86 km), and the Chakulia – Buramara new line (60 km). These lines will connect East Singhbhum more effectively with major industrial and commercial hubs, providing a significant boost to the local iron and steel industry. Improved rail connectivity will also facilitate faster and cheaper transportation of coal and steel to major ports such as Paradeep, Dhamra, and Suvarnrekha, strengthening the supply chain and driving economic growth in the region.

The new railway lines are expected to have a profound impact on the local economy. They will enhance the industrial cluster of Tata Nagar and Ranchi, reducing travel distances and making transportation of goods more efficient. Specifically, the travel distance between Tatanagar and Keonjhar will be shortened by 52 kilometers, offering industries a more direct route for the movement of goods. This will not only benefit local businesses but also improve the overall industrial output of the region.

The environmental impact of these projects is also noteworthy. The new railway lines are expected to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 259 crore kilograms, equivalent to planting around 10.3 crore trees. This reduction in carbon emissions will contribute to the nation’s broader environmental goals and make a positive impact on the region’s ecology.

Moreover, the construction and operation of these new railway lines are projected to generate approximately 76 lakh man-days of employment, providing significant job opportunities for the local population and boosting the regional economy. This employment generation is expected to have a lasting positive effect on the socio-economic fabric of East Singhbhum, improving the quality of life for many residents.

The new lines will also enhance overall connectivity by providing an alternative to the congested Rupsa-Kharagpur-Tatanagar corridor, reducing travel time for both passengers and goods. For pilgrims from the East Singhbhum and North Chota Nagpur regions, travel time to Puri will be reduced by 30 minutes, making religious journeys more convenient.
