Jamshedpur, Dec 12: In a move to provide clean and filtered drinking water to passengers at affordable rates, the South Eastern Railway has issued an order to install 11 water vending machines at 10 stations in the Chakradharpur division. The machines will offer cold water for just five rupees, ensuring passengers have access to refreshing water, especially during the hot summer months.
The water vending machines will be set up at key stations such as Adityapur, Chaibasa, Sini, Rajkharsawan, and other smaller stations within the division. Tatanagar station, which already has nine water vending machines, will also benefit from this initiative. Additionally, water vending machines are already in operation at Jharsuguda and Rourkela stations.
Currently, Tatanagar station has 183 water booths and 13 water cooler machines across five platforms, but the water from these booths is not chilled. In contrast, water cooler machines, managed by various organizations, offer cold water from the platform to the portico, ensuring passenger comfort. The new water vending machines will further enhance passenger convenience by providing an accessible source of cold water, especially during the peak summer season.
