Tata Zoo gets new family members from Sri Venkateswara Zoo

Jamshedpur, March 2: After a gap of two years, the Jamshedpur Zoo today welcomed 13 new animals in their family that arrived today in the afternoon from the Sri Venkateswara Zoological Park, Tirupati after travelling a marathon on road journey of 1600 km all the wander the watchful eyes of five member team from Tirupati Zoo led by their veterinary officer, Mr. Naveen Kumar. They left Tirupati in the evening of 28 February and reached Jamshedpur today in the afternoon. Today being Jharkhand bandh, the team which arrived at Ghatshila at 12 noon were escorted by Jamshedpur Zoo curator, Mr. S.K. Mahato with Field Asset Mr. Ali Akhtar Khan.

Under the exchange programme two Mandrills (one male one female) will be leaving Jamshedpur Zoo today itself in the same truck that brought six Indian Star Tortoise (three female, three males), four Indian Porcupine (one male, one female, two unsexed off springs) a pair of Grey Jungle Fowl and a White Tiger (male) named �Kailash�.

Kailash, the male White Tiger (born on 02.05.2010) will be encouraged to mate with Jamshedpur Zoo�s young tigress, �Dona� (born on 16.04.2012).

An exclusive quarantine has been created by the zoo management to house these animals in order to help them assimilate to the environment initially and will be kept off-exhibit for a few weeks. They will be later housed permanently in a spacious new enclosure.

Tomorrow 3rd March though being a Monday Jamshedpur Zoo will remain open on the occasion of Founders Day.
