Jamshedpur, June 23: Tata Steel, Jharia Division, has been honoured with the prestigious “Golden Peacock Eco-Innovation” Award for 2023. The award recognises Tata Steel’s remarkable commitment to sustainable mining practices, specifically for its innovative use of industrial rejects for stowing in underground coal mines.
The esteemed accolade was presented during the 24th International Conference on Environment Management and Climate Change hosted by the Institute of Directors (IOD), under the chairmanship of Hon’ble Justice M. N. Venkatachaliah, former Chief Justice of India.
Narendra Kumar Gupta, Chief Jamadoba Group, Jharia Division, Tata Steel and Raj Ankur, Head Planning, Jharia Division, Tata Steel, received the award on behalf of the company.
Tata Steel has consistently prioritised sustainability across its operations, beginning from raw material mining. The company’s significant efforts in the field have secured its recognition in the Eco-Innovation category, underscoring its commitment to maintaining its leadership position.

The Golden Peacock Eco-Innovation Award evaluates entries based on various project parameters, including material efficiency, environmental impact, benefits of new processes and products, and economic value distribution.
