Jamshedpur, April 30: Tata Steel Utilities and Infrastructure Services Limited (Tata Steel UISL), formerly JUSCO, has announced plans to expand its services in Jamshedpur.

Sinha outlined the company’s commitment to providing water and electricity connections to areas currently lacking access to these vital amenities

Tata Steel UISL MD Rituraj Sinha on Tuesday said that the company had plans to provide tap water facility to every house of Jamshedpur by 2025. He said, “For this purpose, we have set up three water treatment plants, two in Ramadhin Bagan area for which forms have been distributed and one plant is being set up at Bhuinyadih for which we will distribute forms from July 2024.”

Addressing a press meet at Beldih Club on Tuesday, Ritu Raj Sinha informed that areas including JEMCO Azad Basti, JEMCO Basti, Laxminagar, Namda Basti, Mahanand Basti, Harijan Basti, and Cable Town in the Jamshedpur East region will be provided water connection.

According to Sinha, a total of 3,266 forms had been distributed to facilitate water connections in these areas. However, only 1,595 forms had been completed and returned thus far. Despite this, Tata Steel UISL had provided 1,301 water connections to date, with plans to fulfil additional requests as demands rose.

The MD stated that in Jamshedpur West region, Tata Steel UISL had similarly initiated efforts to extend water connections to underserved communities. Approximately 2,916 forms had been distributed in areas such as Sonari Domuhani Area, Pratima Nagar, Shivnagar, Kapali Basti, Balram Basti, Kanhu Basti Zone, and Ramjanamnagar. Of these, 1,320 forms had been filled out by residents. Currently, 965 people had been provided with water connections, with the company committed to addressing the remaining requests promptly, he added.

Highlighting the importance of electricity accessibility, Sinha emphasized the continuing efforts to extend electricity connections to various areas. Despite the presence of government-supplied electricity in many locations, Tata Steel UISL sought to provide its own electricity supply to ensure reliability. However, challenges had emerged in this endeavor, with Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (JBVNL) demonstrating reluctance to collaborate.

The Tata Steel UISL MD reiterated Tata Steel UISL’s commitment to providing electricity connections to underserved areas, further enhancing the company’s comprehensive utility services.

Furthermore, Sinha underscored the importance of cleanliness initiatives in improving the overall quality of life for residents. Tata Steel UISL was actively working to bolster cleanliness efforts across various areas of Jamshedpur, demonstrating a holistic approach to community development.

The MD also highlighted significant road widening efforts undertaken by Tata Steel UISL, which included the installation of dividers to expand available space.

Addressing the lack of facilities in Jamshedpur’s markets, Sinha emphasized the importance of embracing the smart city concept, which had gained prominence over the past eight years.

“Market redevelopment must be a priority which will help in modernizing market spaces specially in Bistupur and Sakchi to facilitate basement development and address parking challenges,” he stated.

He advocated the integration of solar panels to address energy needs. He also said that solid waste management, particularly the issue of food waste, was identified as a primary concern. To tackle this, Tata Steel UISL had established modular biogas plants in a couple of hotels and restaurants in the city and planned to set up many more and three additional plants for processing bio-degradable waste.
