Tata Steel-TWU ink grade revision for seven years, employees to get maximum Rs 32,000, MGB 12.75 percent

Jamshedpur, Sept 23: Finally, the grade revision accord was signed by the Tata Steel management and Tata Workers� Union officials. The revision will be effective from January 2018 to December 31, 2024.

The accord signed today evening is to be effective for seven years. There will be no change in DA for the period upto December 31, 2019 while for NS Grade employees the rate of DA has been fixed at Rs Three per point. The Minimum Grant benefit (MGB) has been reduced to 12.75 percent.

As per the agreement signed today evening NS Grade 1 employees will have enhanced paypacks with a minimum of Rs 7,112 and a maximum of Rs 10, 018. The salaries of NS 4, NS 7 and NS 12 employees will receive different amounts of pay rise. Steel Wage employees will get increase in salaries ranging between Rs 17, 000 and Rs 32,000. The employees will be paid arrears of payments by February next.

The agreement was signed by Tata Steel�s Global CEO and MD TV Narendran, VP (HRM) Suresh Dutt Tripathy, VP (CS) Chanakya Chowdhary President (TQ1111M and Steel Business) Anand Sen, VP (CSI) Uttam Singh, Sandip Dheer and Zubin Palia and on behalf of TWU by President R Ravi Prasad, Deputy President Arvind pandey, General Secretary Satish Singh, Vice Presidents S Alam, Bhagwan Singh and Shatrughna Rai, Assistant Secretaries Dharmendra Upadhyay, KK Singh, Nitesh Raj and Treasurer Prabhat Lal.

500 employments in three years

As per the new wage agreement, there will be 500 appointments in the Company in a span of three years. Non technical workers will get employment. TWU President R Ravi Prasad said that the employments would be in NS Grade 1. He observed that this provision would provide income opportunities to empolyees� sons and those registered for employment.

Ceiling on DA from January, 2020

The new agreement includes ceiling on DA of Steel Wage employees from January 2020. DA will be calculated as per basic pay upto December 31, 2019. There would be no further increase in DA from January, 2020. The Tata Steel employees have said that their pay would be reduced in January 2020 as compared to that of December 2019.

TWU bends to Company dictates: Employees

TWU surrendered under Tata Steel management�s pressure. The Management had, at the initial stages of wage negotiations, proposed the enhancement of the wage revision agreement tenure, change in the DA format, ceiling on DA as per the wage terms of colliery employees, reduction in MGB. The TWU acceded to three proposals of Tata Steel management.  Last year, the tenure of wage revision agreed upon was six years.  MGB received was at 18.25 percent.  NS Grade employees were receiving Rs 3 per point.  The employees felt that the TWU had bowed to the wishes of the management. The signing of the wage agreement means ceiling on DA from January, 2020 which would drastically hit the income of the employees.
