Tata Steel Training Centre wins 3rd Jharkhand State Open Karate Championship

Jamshedpur, July 30: The 3rd Jharkhand State Open Karate Championship 2023 took place at the JRD Tata Sports Complex on July 28-29, coinciding with the 119th JRD Tata Birth Anniversary celebrations. The championship saw the enthusiastic participation of 300 contestants from every district of Jharkhand.

The students of Tata Steel Karate Training Centre emerged victorious with 42 points, earning them the title of Champion. Sensei Niraj Kumar and Sampai Karnisha Das, both Coaches of Tata Steel Karate Training Centre, were honored with the Champion’s Trophy. The West Singhbhum District Team secured the Runner’s up position with 36 points, and Sensei Sumit Kumar Senapati and Sensei Shubodh Karua, both coaches of the West Singhbhum Team, were presented with the runner’s trophy.

During the closing ceremony, Sarojini Lakra, the Director of Sports, Govt. of Jharkhand, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and presented medals and certificates to the winners. In her address, Lakra commended Tata Steel for its unwavering support in promoting sports and also praised the officials of Tata Steel Sports Department and Shihan L. Nageshwar Rao for the seamless organization of the championship.

Shihan L. Nageshwar Rao, the organizer of the tournament and Chief Coach of Tata Steel Karate Training Centre, extended his vote of thanks. He expressed gratitude to Sarojini Lakra for her presence at short notice and also thanked all the Senior Judges and Referees who participated in the championship, ensuring its smooth conduct.

Several dignitaries were present at the closing ceremony, including Mukul Vinayak Choudhary, Chief Sports Tata Steel, Hemant Gupta, Head Sports Tata Steel, Olympian Anand Menezes, among others.

Rao also acknowledged the contributions of Shihan Nepal Vishwakarma, Shihan Shahzad Qurashi, Sensei Priyabrata Dutta, Sensei Lal Mohan, Sensei Somnath Bose, and Sensei Shubodh Karua, who actively participated in the tournament, ensuring its success.

Additionally, Rao expressed his gratitude towards Mukul Vinayak Choudhary, Hemant Gupta, Anand Menezes, Asmita Dorjee, Senior Instructor, Tata Steel Adventure Foundation, Dr. Hassan Imam, Senior Manager, Tata Steel, R. Pawan Kumar, Sr. Manager, Poonam Kumari Goswami, Arun, and other ground staff for their valuable support, which greatly contributed to making the championship a grand success.
