Tata Steel TAC to Crack Down on Encroachment, Quarter Misuse in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur: The Tata Steel Town Advisory Committee (TAC) has launched a major initiative to improve civic discipline and infrastructure. In a meeting held at the Tata Steel UISL boardroom, the committee tackled critical issues including illegal encroachment, infrastructure decay, and the commercial misuse of residential quarters.

The meeting was chaired by D.B. Sundara Ramam, Vice President (Corporate Services), Tata Steel, while Tata Workers’ Union General Secretary Satish Kumar Singh attended as Vice-Chairman. Representatives from Tata Steel management and the union participated in the deliberations, which lasted nearly one-and-a-half hours and focused on improving civic services and maintaining order in company-managed areas of the city.

Strict Penalties for Quarter Misuse

The committee announced a zero-tolerance policy against the unauthorized use of company housing. Officials will now take disciplinary action against residents who allow vendors or handcart operators to store goods inside company quarters for profit. The TAC reaffirmed that these properties are strictly for residential use.

Action Against Encroachment

Addressing urban congestion, the committee resolved to intensify anti-encroachment drives across Jamshedpur. Monitoring will increase significantly in high-traffic commercial hubs, particularly in Bistupur, to ensure clear roads and pedestrian safety.

Key Infrastructure Upgrades

The management, led by Vice President D.B. Sundara Ramam and Union General Secretary Satish Kumar Singh, approved several safety and utility projects:

  • Enhanced Lighting: New lights will be installed near the Tata Steel Burmamines gate and in residential back lanes to boost security.

  • TMH Expansion: A new proposal will expand bicycle parking at Tata Main Hospital (TMH) to handle the growing volume of visitors.

  • Monsoon Repairs: Maintenance teams will prioritize repairing rain-damaged quarters and resume painting work once the season ends.

  • Utility Speed-up: Officials pledged to accelerate gas pipeline installations and fix deteriorating roads city-wide.

Solving Traffic Bottlenecks

Following concerns raised by union representatives, the committee agreed to review traffic flow near the Tube Company Gate. The management plans to implement strategic changes to ease daily congestion for workers and residents.

Leadership and Coordination

Key attendees included Tata Steel UISL MD Rituraj Sinha, GM R.K. Sinha, and a large delegation from the Tata Workers’ Union. This regular coordination between Tata Steel and the Union remains the primary platform for resolving city-wide employee concerns.
