Jamshedpur, Jan 10: Tata Steel�will start production from its greenfield plant at Kalinganagar in Odisha from March/April 2015. The company is waiting for the state government consent of operation in a couple of days.
“Kalinganagar project is going on. It will start production from the March/April this year, we are awaiting the Consent of Operation from the Odisha government, which is expected in couple of days’ time,” Tata Steel Managing Director�T V Narendran�told media persons on the sidelines of the HR Conference at XLRI on Saturday.
“We have around 2000 tones storage capacity here, which has come down to less than 1000 tones following the closure of the mines in Jharkhand and Odisha,” he said.
The Odisha project is the second integrated unit of the home-grown steel major in India after Jamshedpur, where it recently completed borwnfield expansion to enhance capacity to 10 million tonnes per annum (mtpa).
The Kalinganagar project, which will essentially produce flat products, will have 3 mtpa capacity in the first phase. This would be doubled in the next phase.
