Jamshedpur, March 28: The Indian Institute of Metals (IIM), Jamshedpur Chapter, organized a felicitation program on March 28 at the CFE Auditorium, Jamshedpur, to honour awardees of the IIM Annual Technical Meeting (ATM) and National Metallurgist Awards (NMA) 2024. The event recognized outstanding contributions in the field of metallurgy and material sciences.
Dr. Siddhartha Misra, Chief Process Research at Tata Steel Limited, was awarded the prestigious IIM OP Jindal Gold Medal for his exceptional contributions to the metallurgical industry.
Dr. Biraj Kumar Sahoo from CSIR-NML received the National Metallurgist Award 2023 under the Young Metallurgist Award – Metal Science category.
The Best Oral Presentation Award at IIM ATM 2024 was presented to Anirudh Roy, Gaddameedi Vandana, and Akasmita Biswal from Tata Steel Limited, along with Dharmendar Kumar Rajak, Ashish Mukherjee, Prasad Kopparthi, Ravi Golani, and Sukanta Badaik.
The Best Poster Presentation Award was conferred upon Ravi Golani and Nisha Sinha from Tata Steel, as well as R. L. Praharsha from JAMIPOL. Additionally, the prestigious M.S. Khan Memorial Award was awarded to Anushri Nag from Tata Steel Limited and Dr. Poulami Maji from NIT Jamshedpur.
Earlier, Dr. Ashok Kumar, Professor at the Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (MME) Department, NIT Jamshedpur, and Chairperson of IIM Jamshedpur Chapter, delivered the welcome address, setting the stage for the felicitation ceremony.
The event was graced by Dr. S. Ghosh Chowdhury, Director of CSIR-NML, as the Guest of Honour. In his speech, he reminisced about the contributions of the late M.S. Khan to the IIM Jamshedpur Chapter and was presented with a memento as a token of gratitude for his presence.
A key highlight of the event was the M.S. Khan Memorial Lecture, held in memory of M.S. Khan, a former Honorary Secretary of IIM Jamshedpur Chapter who made significant contributions to its growth.
The prestigious lecture was delivered by Prof. R.K. Ray, Chief Mentor at Innovative Materials Solutions and Former Professor at IIT Kanpur. He spoke on the topic “A Century of Texture Research: Historical Perspective and a Personal Journey.” His presentation provided insights into ‘texture’ or the ‘preferred orientation of grains’ in polycrystalline materials, covering a century of research in the field. Prof. Ray also shared his five-decade-long personal journey in texture research and discussed future directions in the domain.
Following the lecture, an interactive Q&A session saw enthusiastic participation from the audience. Over 50 eminent professionals attended the event, engaging in discussions on advancements in metallurgical sciences.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Gopi Kishor Mandal, Secretary of IIM Jamshedpur Chapter, marking the successful completion of the felicitation and knowledge-sharing event.
