Jamshedpur: Tata Steel NS Grade Employees Confront Tata Workers’ Union President Over Wage Revision Demands

Jamshedpur: NS Grade employees and committee members of Tata Steel gheraoed Tata Workers’ Union President Sanjeev Choudhary ‘Tunnu’ at the union office on Saturday. The group demanded superior benefits in the next wage revision and a formal commitment to upgrading their standard of living.

Key Demands Include 50% MGB and Education Allowance

The employees submitted a list of demands, including:

  • Ensuring 50% Minimum Guaranteed Benefit (MGB).
  • A fixed payment of ₹5,000 with VDA (Variable Dearness Allowance) at ₹6 per point.
  • Annual increment set at a minimum of 3% of basic pay.
  • A clear roadmap for 8% to 10% annual growth.
  • An education allowance of ₹5,000 per child.
  • Special provisions for employees nearing retirement and those facing stagnation in Blocks 1, 2, and 3.

Union President Assures Fair Representation

The committee members emphasized that the union must secure the future of nearly 7,000 NS Grade employees. President Sanjeev Choudhary, who recently returned from a four-day tour, assured the workers that he would discuss these points with union officials and present them strongly during negotiations with the management. He stated he would strive to ensure that no injustice is done to the NS Grade workforce.
