Key dept secretaries attend ‘high level’ meeting
Ranchi, February 10: T V Narendran, CEO and managing director, Tata Steel paid a courtesy call on Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren at his residential office in Kanke Road, Ranchi on Friday.
According to sources in the chief minister’s secretariat the meeting discussed business opportunities and other long-standing issues.
“The Tata Steel MD was wanting to meet the chief minister for a long time. It was a high-level meeting in the presence of the chief secretary (Sukhdev Singh), secretary to the chief minister and urban development secretary Vinay Choubey, planning secretary Amitabh Kaushal, mines secretary Abu Bakr Siddiqui and secretary department of revenue and land reforms, Kamal Kishore Soan along with the chief minister,” said the source.
The meeting discussed wide-ranging issues including Tata Steel’s new projects both in Jamshedpur and other parts of the state.

Tata Steel spokesperson refused to divulge much into the meeting and termed it as a ‘courtesy meeting’ between the corporate honcho and the chief minister.
Incidentally, domestic steel giant Tata Steel had last year expressed commitment to invest Rs 3,000 crore in Jharkhand in the next three years to augment capacities. The commitment was made at the launch of Jharkhand Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy (JIIPP) 2021 at Delhi, launched by Chief Minister Hemant Soren.
JIIPP 2021, replacing the 2016 policy of the Raghubar Das-led BJP government, eyeing Rs 1 lakh crore investments, generating over 500,000 employment opportunities, and luring investors with attractive incentives in various key sectors.
