Jamshedpur, August 31: With ever increasing road accidents in Jamshedpur which is one of the main reasons behind death, Jharkhand Police with the help of Tata Steel and Medica (Kantilal Gandhi Memorial Hospital) has rolled out 24*7 ambulance service in steel city which would prove to be a life saver on wheels at accident-prone crossings.
The facility was launched by DGP Jharkhand Rajeev Kumar, Tata Steel MD TV Narendran and Medica Chairman Alok Ray at Medica (Kantilal Gandhi Memorial Hospital) on Sunday evening.
Manjula Singh, VP CSR, Medica said, we are running the same facility in Kolkata (KARMA) from the last 2 years which has been very successful.
DGP Rajeev Kumar said we launched the same initiative 7-8 months back in Ranchi named �Golden Hours Service� but due to lack of manpower and facility it�s not working properly. �I hope JARMA works in Jamshedpur and request the Medica and Tata Steel to start the same facility in Ranchi in coming months�, added Kumar.
Tata Steel MD TV Narendran, said India has been termed as the Accident Capital of the World were 10% accidents take place on roads despite the speed of the vehicle which is very slow. The new project shows us how as a team we can work and make a difference. I hope this facility works and can help several precious lives of the people of the city.
Chairman of Medica Alok Ray, said 6 months since this hospital was inaugurated we have been moving forward and it�s another feather in the cap for Medica. �I think 6 ambulances is adequate for a start and the number will be increased in coming days and it�s the facility for the people who can�t help themselves, Hope our next stop is Ranchi,� Ray added.
Under the project, Jarma (Jamshedpur Accident Response and Medical Assistance) that aims to provide 24 hours trauma care service to the people of the city trained personnel on ambulances will assess the condition of those in need of help, provide basic treatment and ferry them to a hospital which is near to the site of accident with the facilities needed to take care of them.
Under the initiative of JARMA, a mishap victim will be rescued and carried to the nearest hospital by police ambulance from the spot. The ambulance will have the presence of a para-medics and a police constable in it. The ambulance will rush to the mishap spot on giving a call on toll free No 6600100 within 10 minutes.
The JARMA programme is sponsored by district police, Tata Steel and Medica Super Specialist Hospital. While the district police has provided six ambulance and man power for meeting the emergency, Tata Steel has provided the trained para-medics as well as other necessary infrastructure.
Dr. NK Das, Director, Medica Jamshedpur said we have set up Central Command Centre were all calls for accident-help will have to be made to the Medica Command Centre from where the personnel will alert the ambulance stationed nearest to the spot and guide it to the hospital with the facilities to treat the accident victim(s).
