India crowned winner of AGKF Karate Championship
Jharkhand Sports Minister felicitates medal winners
Jamshedpur, June 22: Indian Karate team won the overall championship trophy in the 7th AGKF Karate Championship held in Kathmandu, Nepal from June 16-18.
Jointly organised by Nepal Karate Federation and Nepal Goju Ryu Karate Association at Dashrath Indoor Stadium, Kathmandu the runners up trophy was bagged by Nepal Team while Sri Lankan Team bagged the third place.
Four students of Tata Steel Karate Training Centre representing Team India secured remarkable victories and won medals. Training Centre cadets made Jamshedpur proud by winning four medals.

Karnisha Das won silver medal in senior Kata category, Shristi Singh secured silver medal in senior Kumite category, Avinash Raj bagged gold medal in junior Kumite category and Pranab Paul clinched silver medal in senior Kata category.
Chief Coach at Tata Steel Karate Training Centre Shihan L. Nageshwar Rao was present as Referee & Coach at the championship.
Tata Karate Training Centre medal winners led by Karate coach Nageshwar Rao on Thursday met Jharkhand Sports Minister Hafizul Hassan at later’s Ranchi residence.
Minister felicitated the medal winners and congratulated the team members and coach for outstanding performance in AGKF Karate Championship. Hassan wished cadets luck for future competitions.
Later, Karate team including medal winners, L. Nageshwar Rao, General Secretary, Jharkhand State Karate Do Association, Shihan Shahzad Qurashi, Sensei Sandeep Kumar, Sensei Neeraj Kumar also met Sarojini Lakra, Director, Directorate of Sports, Govt. of Jharkhand at later’s office in Ranchi. Lakra extended best wishes to the cadets on the achievement.
Meanwhile, all affiliated Members under Asian Goju Ryu Karate Do Federation i.e. karate teams from India, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia, Bangaldesh, Hong Kong, China, Tajakistan, Indonesia participated in the championship.
Shihan Dhiraj B. Pawar of Maharashtra, a representative of WGKF was also present during the tournament. Hansi Peter Harms from Belgium and Treasurer of World Goju Ryu Karate Federation was present as Guest of Honour. Hansi Bharat Sharma, Technical Committee Member, WKF was present as Special Guest.
This Championship was organized by Shihan BR Mitra, General Secretary, Nepal Karate Federation & President, AGKF, Shihan Khaled Monsur Chowdhury, General Secretary AGKF , Bangaldesh, Soke Sir K. Anantha, Vice President, AGKF, Malaysia.
