Tata Steel Jamshedpur leaders empower rural women entrepreneurs

Officials engage with SHG women, donate sewing machines in Potka

Jamshedpur, November 1: As part of its community engagement initiative, senior officials and employees of Tata Steel’s Corporate Services department visited Panchayat Bhavan, Tetla, in Potka block of district.

They interacted with women entrepreneurs from the Pragatti Udyog Mahila Samiti, a cluster of self-help groups supported by the Tata Steel Foundation.

The visiting team included D.B. Sundara Ramam, Vice President, Corporate Services, Varun Bajaj, Chief, Town Infrastructure & Logistics, and Mukul Vinayak Choudhari, Chief, Sports. The objective of the visit was to foster meaningful dialogue, encourage local enterprise, and celebrate indigenous art and culture.

During the interaction, the women showcased a diverse range of handmade products including natural soaps, traditional jewellery, and ethnic garments. The team also engaged with the women to learn Sohrai painting, learning the intricate techniques of this tribal art form that reflects the cultural richness of the region.

The corporate leaders offered practical suggestions on marketing strategies, product presentation, and skill enhancement, encouraging the women to explore broader markets and digital platforms. Their guidance was met with enthusiasm and appreciation, reinforcing the importance of corporate-community collaboration.

In a gesture of support, the team also donated sewing machines to the self-help groups to aid their livelihood efforts and promote sustainable income generation.

This initiative highlights Tata Steel’s unwavering commitment to inclusive development, women empowerment, and cultural preservation, aligning with its broader CSR goals and vision for community-led growth.
