Tata Steel Jamshedpur lays foundation for Pond 6 at CRM Bara

Jamshedpur, July 2: As part of its commitment to biological diversity, Tata Steel laid the foundation stone for pond #6 at CRM Bara Area on Friday.

Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President, Corporate Services Tata Steel, Atrayee Sanyal, Vice President, Human Resource Management Tata Steel, Tarun Daga, Managing Director, Tata Steel Utilities & Infrastructure Services Limited (TSUISL)  along with other senior officials of Tata Steel were present.

Tata Steel has embarked upon a journey with a masterplan to rejuvenate near extinct water bodies in the city as part of its sustainability targets and commitment towards reduction in fresh water consumption. Rejuvenation of water bodies at CRM Bara was envisaged in the year 2019.

With the completion of Pond #6, a total of 35-acres of land developed as water bodies. Pond number 6, whose ground breaking took place today, is spread over an area of three acres at the CRM Bara Complex premises. The area also has 12-acres of green cover.

This project serves multiple purposes of rainwater harvesting, collection and storage of surface run-off rainwater and treated water from CRM Bara as well as recharging groundwater and enhancing the natural beauty of the area.

On August 26, 2021, Tata Steel inaugurated the new rain water harvesting pond followed by ground breaking of the rejuvenation of existing water bodies at CRM Bara complex. It resulted in the creation of a larger rainwater harvesting facility, improvement in water table of local area and increase in biological diversity.

Tata Steel is the first corporate in India to launch its Biodiversity Policy in 2016. The policy provides guidelines for including biodiversity in every strategic and operational decision making. Tata Steel is striving towards building a sustainable tomorrow that respect all forms of life.

On August 27, 2020, Tata Steel had rejuvenated the CRM Bara Pond at Jamshedpur, which was virtually inaugurated by T V Narendran, CEO&MD, Tata Steel.
