Tata Steel Jamshedpur employee collapses on duty

Jamshedpur, April 22: One Gourango Nand, senior technician, died after fainting on duty in Tata Steel on Friday. He was 57 and posted in the Equipment Maintenance Services (EQMS) Department, sources said.

According to company sources, Nand, was working in the General Shift when he suddenly fell unconscious around 9.20 am. A doctor examined him and reportedly found that his heart was not beating. Nand was immediately taken to Tata Main Hospital where he was declared brought dead, company sources said.

A company official confirmed the death. “As per the initial medical observation, it appears to be a case of cardiac arrest. He did not meet with any accident and there was no external injury reported. The cause of death is being investigated and the body has been sent for postmortem. The family of the deceased has been informed and the Company will extend all statutory benefits and other benefits to the family as per the Company policy,” a company statement said.
