Tata Steel to Invest ₹11,000 Crore in Jharkhand ₹2,600 Crore Earmarked for Tinplate Expansion in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur: Tata Steel has announced a massive investment of ₹11,000 crore in Jharkhand, with major projects slated for completion by 2028-29. The announcement follows a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed recently between the Jharkhand government and Tata Steel CEO & MD T.V. Narendran at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Speaking to reporters on the occasion of the 77th Republic Day on Monday, Tata Steel Vice President D.B. Sundara Ramam detailed the company’s roadmap for strategic growth and sustainability.

Focused Investment in Jamshedpur

The investment package includes several high-priority projects focused on downstream expansion and modern technology:

  • Tinplate Expansion: ₹2,600 crore is dedicated to expanding the Tinplate Company’s capacity in Jamshedpur.

  • Combi Mill Project: ₹1,100 crore has been invested in a state-of-the-art Combi Mill. The mill is currently in its “ramp-up” stage, and the company is coordinating with the Chief Minister for its official inauguration.

  • Green Steel Initiative: Approximately ₹7,000 crore will be channeled into two major projects aimed at achieving zero carbon emissions, utilizing advanced green steel technologies from the Netherlands and Germany.

Vision for ‘One Nation, One Steel’

Addressing the Republic Day gathering, Sundara Ramam emphasized Tata Steel’s commitment to national and state development. He described the Constitution as the guiding light for the nation—comparable to the Gita, Bible, and Quran—and highlighted the company’s role in building India’s industrial backbone.

Currently, Tata Steel is working toward a “One Nation, One Steel” vision, focusing on standardized excellence across its operations. Beyond industrial growth, the company continues to invest heavily in community welfare, specifically in:

  • Healthcare and Education

  • Skill Development and Training

  • Safety, Ethics, and Discipline

The Vice President concluded the event by inspecting the ceremonial parade and extending Republic Day greetings to the community, reaffirming that Tata Steel will remain a steadfast partner in Jharkhand’s economic journey.
