Jamshedpur: In a significant relief for residents of the Kolhan region, MGM Medical College and Hospital is set to launch specialized indoor facilities for Cancer and Neurology. This expansion means patients suffering from life-threatening conditions will no longer be forced to travel to Ranchi or other metros for essential care.
Hospital Deputy Superintendent Dr. Nakul Prasad Choudhary confirmed that preparations are in the final stages, with specific locations already identified for the new wards.
10-Bed Cancer Ward on the 6th Floor
The hospital will establish a 10-bed Cancer Indoor Ward on the sixth floor of the new hospital building.
- Scaling Up: While starting with 10 beds, the hospital plans to double the capacity to 20 beds based on future demand.
- Reducing Referrals: Currently, MGM is forced to refer 2 to 3 cancer patients every week to RIMS, Ranchi. Once operational, these patients can receive localized treatment, saving both critical time and financial resources for families.
- Resource Mobilization: Staffing and equipment procurement for the oncology unit are being fast-tracked.
New Inpatient Neurology Care
For the first time, MGM’s Neurology department will move beyond outpatient (OPD) consultations to provide indoor admission facilities.
- Treating Complex Cases: The new ward will cater to patients suffering from brain strokes, epilepsy, nerve disorders, and other complex neurological issues.
- Surgical Readiness: Before opening the indoor facility, the hospital is prioritizing the upgrade of the Neurology Operating Theater to ensure that life-saving surgeries can be performed on-site.
- Capacity: Similar to the cancer unit, the neuro ward will debut with an initial 10-bed setup.
