Tata Steel Foundation awards 120 students with Jyoti Fellowship in West Bokaro

West Bokaro (Ramgarh), April 25: Tata Steel Foundation, in collaboration with Gainwell Commosales (through Bhagwanti Memorial Foundation), hosted the Jyoti Fellowship Award Ceremony at Tata Steel Foundation, West Bokaro, to celebrate the academic achievements of 120 bright and deserving students from underserved communities.

The fellowship recipients, all Class 7 students, were selected through a rigorous merit-based selection test. Out of 659 participants, these 120 students stood out for their exceptional academic potential. Each student received a fellowship amount of Rs. 6,000, aimed at easing financial constraints and enabling continued access to quality education.

In recognition of extraordinary performance, the top seven scorers were also awarded tablets to support their digital learning journey.

The ceremony was graced by key dignitaries, including Dipak Dasgupta, General Manager, Gainwell Commosales; Narendra Kumar Gupta; Chief, Quarry SEB, West Bokaro Division, Tata Steel; Aditya Singh, Unit Lead, Tata Steel Foundation, West Bokaro among others.

Jiren Xavier Topno, Head, Tribal Identity, Tata Steel Foundation, stated: “The Jyoti Fellowship Programme is more than financial support— it stems from our commitment to creating equitable opportunities for students from communities that need the assistance the most. At Tata Steel Foundation, we believe that education is the cornerstone of empowerment.  We are thankful to Gainwell Commosales for joining hands towards this cause, and to the communities for their continued faith in co-creating the journey of change at West Bokaro.”

In FY 2024-25, the Jyoti Fellowship reached a significant milestone, supporting a total of 704 students from Mandu Block (Ramgarh district) and Gomia Block (Bokaro district) with a total disbursement of Rs. 77.90 lakhs. Notably, 439 of the awardees are female students, reinforcing the programme’s emphasis on gender inclusion in education.

The detailed fellowship distribution is as follows:

.         178 students of Class 8: Rs. 6,000 each

  •      221 students of Classes 9 and 10: Rs. 9,000 each
  •      102 students of Classes 11 and 12: Rs. 18,000 each
  •      81 undergraduate students: Rs. 25,000 each
  •      2 postgraduate students: Rs. 30,000 each

 

Supported at West Bokaro by Gainwell Foundation, the Jyoti Fellowship Programme continues to be a beacon of opportunity, empowering students from underprivileged backgrounds to pursue their academic goals with confidence and dignity.
