Tata Steel employees revive cultural heritage with theatre and music in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur: The rich cultural tradition of Tata Steel employees was gracefully revived this year with the successful presentation of theatrical and musical performances at Tulsi Bhavan, Jamshedpur. The initiative was led by a theatre group originally founded in 1988 by Renuka Singh along with senior Tata Steel employees to promote art, culture and creative expression among employees and their families.

In its early years, the group organised a three-day cultural festival that witnessed enthusiastic participation from school students, Tata Steel employees and their wards. The festival featured Hindi and Bangla plays, music and singing competitions, Antakshari and inspiring dance performances, offering a vibrant platform for showcasing talent and encouraging cultural exchange.

Continuing this long-standing tradition, the theatre group once again presented meaningful cultural programmes this year in collaboration with Sahyog, a multilingual literary organisation. Two well-known Hindi plays—Mahabhoj, directed by Anuj Prasad, and Kanyadan, directed by Nizam—were staged successfully and received warm appreciation from the audience.

The cultural evening also included a musical presentation titled Sangeet Sandhya, in which local artistes captivated the audience with a harmonious blend of old and contemporary songs. Adding to the grandeur of the event, students of D.B.M.S. College of Education presented an elegant dance performance titled Bhairavi, portraying the various forms of Goddess Durga through expressive movements and choreography.

The judging panel for the event Mother India included eminent personalities Dr. Mudita Chandra, Dr. Joohi Samarpita, Purvi Ghosh and Anjani Nidhi, who appreciated the performances and encouraged the participants.

The event not only celebrated artistic excellence but also highlighted the continued commitment of Tata Steel employees and associated organisations towards preserving cultural heritage and promoting creative expression within the community.
