Jamshedpur, Feb. 15: Tata Steel was crowned the winner of the All India Inter Steel Plants Athletic Championship scoring 158 points.
The championship which began on February 13 at the JRD Tata Sports Complex concluded on Wednesday, February 15. Team from Indian Steel Plant, Burnpur was second with 124 points, Durgapur Steel Plant was third with 118 points, Bhilai Steel Plant scored 87 points, .
Alloy Steel Plant, Durgapur scored 67 points, Rourkela Steel Plant ended with 59 points, Vishakhapatnam Steel Plant (RINL/VSP) scored 24, Bokaro Steel Plant scored 9 while Vhadrawati Iron & Steel (VISL) scored 3 points.
Nine steel plant teams from across the country are participating in the championship. Around 275 athletes / officials are also attending the championship.
Alloy Steel Plant, Durgapur, Durgapur Steel Plant, Tata Steel, Vishakhapatnam Steel Plant (RINL/VSP), Rourkela Steel Plant, Bhilai Steel Plant, Bokaro Steel Limited, Indian Steel Plant, Burnpur and Vhadrawati Iron & Steel (VISL) are participating.
M. E. Shamsi of ISP, Burnpur was the observer of the above championship.
Qualified officials of Jamshedpur and other Steel Plants, Game teachers and trainees of Athletic Training Center under the Meet Director, Bagicha Singh cooperated in making the meet successful. Several events including 100 M, 200 M, 400 M, 800 M, 1500 M, 5000 M, 110 M (H), 400M (H), 10000 M, 3000 M Steeple Chase, Long Jump, High Jump, Triple Jump, Shot Put, Discus, Javelin, Decathlon, 4 x 100 M Relay, 4 x 400 M Relay, 20 KM Walk are being held.
Chief Guest for Closing ceremony was Suresh Dutt Tripathy, VP (HRM), Tata Steel and distributed the prizes to the winners. On the occasion N K Jha, UCM, Satnam Singh and many athletes and employees of the Sports Dept were present.
