Tata Steel Commemorates Birth Anniversary of Baba Tilka Manjhi

Jamshedpur, Feb11: Tata Steel�s Tribal Cultural Society in association with Baba Tilka Manjhi Aven Akhra organised a cultural event to commemorate the 267th birth anniversary of Baba Tilka Manjhi at Tilka Stadium, Baliguma on February 11, 2017.

The event witnessed tribal dance and song performances by artists from Chakuliya, Dampada, Narga and Patamda. The traditional dance performances that were showcased during the event were Sarfa, Pata, Rinjha and Dasai.

Biren Bhuta, Chief, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Mrs Urmila Ekka, Hony Secretary, Tribal Cultural Society and team members were also present on the occasion.

Baba Tilka Manjhi (or Tilka Murmu) was the first Santal leader who took up arm against the British rule in the year 1789. He organized the Santals to form the Mukti Dal (Liberation Group) to fight against the resource grabbing and exploitation.

Tribal Cultural Society promote tribal culture by organising cultural events on the occasion of anniversaries of tribal heroes.
