Jamshedpur, June 21: Tata Steel today celebrated International Day of Yoga at the Archery Ground, JRD Tata Sports Complex. Approximately 1500 yoga enthusiasts, including employees of Tata Steel, citizens of Jamshedpur, cadets from all the academies such as Hockey, Football, Archery and from all Tata Steel training centres and jawans from RAF and JAP participated in the one-hour long session in the morning.
The programme included an overview of the benefits of yoga and demonstration of some of the important asanas and postures. Apart from basics of yoga, the participants were also informed regarding various benefits of yoga.
The event was organized to create awareness about yoga in all aspects, both for the uninitiated and the practitioners. The importance of yoga, as a part of a healthy all round regimen was highlighted. The session was conducted by Arvind Prasad, a trained yoga practitioner. Dr Rajan Chaudhary, GM, Medical Services, Tata Steel felicitated Prasad.
Sunil Bhaskaran, Vice President, Corporate Services, Tata Steel and Bachendri Pal, Chief, Adventure Programme, Tata Steel also participated in the celebrations. The United Nations General Assembly had declared June 21 as the International Day of Yoga in Dec 11, 2014. Its celebration in Jamshedpur is an initiative by Sports Department of Tata Steel.
