Tata Steel Board nod to extend TV Narendran’s tenure by 5 years

Jamshedpur/Mumbai, July 24: On Monday, Tata Steel announced the reappointment of TV Narendran as the Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director of the company for a five-year term, starting from September 19, 2023. His current tenure ends on September 18, 2023, said Tata Steel.

The company stated, “T. V. Narendran is appointed as CEO & MD of the Company for a further period of five years effective September 19, 2023…Not liable to retire by rotation.” However, this reappointment is subject to approval from the shareholders.

Narendran has over 35 years of experience in the mining and metals industry, having joined Tata Steel in 1988. He was initially appointed as the Managing Director of Tata Steel for India and South East Asia on November 1, 2013.

Prior to taking on the role of Managing Director of Tata Steel, Narendran served as VP (Safety & Flat Products) at Tata Steel. He joined the company after completing his MBA from IIM Calcutta in 1988. Notably, he is a Chevening Scholar and has also participated in the Advanced Management Programme at CEDEP – INSEAD, Fontainebleau, France.

In October 2017, Tata Steel promoted Narendran to the position of Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director on a global level. During his tenure as CEO & MD, he has overseen the organic and inorganic growth of Tata Steel, including key acquisitions like Bhushan Steel Limited (later known as Tata Steel BSL Limited) and its subsequent amalgamation into the company, as well as the Steel business of Usha Martin Limited, Neelanchal Ispat Nigam Limited, and Rohit Ferro-Tech Limited.

Additionally, Narendran holds the position of Chairman in Tata Steel Europe, the Supervisory Board of Tata Steel Nederland BV, Tata Steel Long Products Limited, and Neelachal Ispat Nigam Limited.
