Tata Power’s Maithon Power inaugurates production centre

Jamshedpur, April 25 : Tata Power, India�s largest integrated power Company, has always undertaken various activities with an aim to improve the quality of life and uplift the economic conditions of its surrounding communities.

In line with this philosophy, Tata Power’s Maithon Power Limited (MPL), the Company’s 74:26 joint venture with Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) inaugurated Production Centre as part of Handicraft Training for women in villages of Maithon.

The program has been undertaken in collaboration with Amarkutir Society for Rural Development (AKSRD). More than 60 women artisans from 17 villages will be benefitting from this initiative.

The objective of the initiative is to impart required skills and training to women and generate employment opportunities to supplement family income and make them self-dependent. The program is divided into two parts which includes training and production.

The women are provided training for Bag making, needle work (Katha Stitch) and tailoring. Post the skill training, production of goods is carried out which will be purchased by AKSRD and the women are provided their making charges on monthly basis in their individual bank account.

As part of the collaboration, AKSRD provides the raw materials for production and after preparation of finished products, quality inspection is conducted.
