Tata Motors-BITS Pilani partnership launches B.Tech

Jamshedpur, Nov. 3: Under the initiative �Continuing Education� for employees, Tata Motors on Tuesday launched a flagship B.Tech programme in manufacturing technology in partnership with Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS), Pilani at a special function held in Jamshedpur.

Auto major entered into a long-term partnership with BITS, Pilani last month to create a platform for a series of technical education programs to build world-class technical skills to not only bridge present skill gaps that prevail in the automotive industry but also to prepare a future-ready organization.

This is a first Industry-Academia partnership for Tata Motors with a leading Institution like BITS, Pilani to develop technical talent at multiple levels in the organisation and the B.Tech programme is a flagship offering under the same.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Gajendra Chandel, Chief Human Resources Officer, Tata Motors, said that Jamshedpur, the place where Tata Motors started operations in 1945, was the apt choice for starting this pioneering programme as it was where the true concept of industrialization was born.

He noted that in view of the sizeable employee base in both Tata Motors and TML Drivelines, the programme would serve to build key skills required in today�s context, also enabling the organization to fulfil its commitment to the growth of its people.

Dr S Gurunarayanan, Dean, Work Integrated Learning Programmes Division, BITS Pilani, in his address, said that this BITS, a multi-locational institution, started its Work Integrated Learning Programmes Division in 1974 and has come a long way since then. He further shared that this off-campus offering for Tata Motors has been highly customised to meet the needs of the industry.

Highlighting that this was an opportunity to learn under a best-in-class institute, Ajoy B Lall, Head � Jamshedpur Plant, Tata Motors, urged the participants to put in their best and ensure the success of this venture.

The event was also graced by M Sampath Kumar, CEO � TML Drivelines; Sushant Routray, GM � Commercial HR, CVBU; Sanjay Verma, Head-HR, CVBU and Ravi Singh, Head-HR & PS, Jamshedpur Plant along with other senior executives and employees of Tata Motors and TML Drivelines. 46 employees from both the companies have enrolled in the pilot batch of the programme.

The 3.5 year long programme comprises 6 semesters (of 6 months each) followed by dissertation. Classes would be held on Sundays / weekly off days in Tata Motors� Jamshedpur Plant.
