Tata Group to Create New Job Opportunities: Chandrasekaran

Jamshedpur: In a significant statement that could reshape employment prospects across India, N. Chandrasekaran, chairman of Tata Sons, has revealed plans to expand the Tata Group’s workforce to around 15 lakh employees, with a special focus on creating opportunities for women and youth.

Addressing the media in Jamshedpur on the occasion of Founder’s Day, Chandrasekaran said the Tata Group — already one of the country’s largest employers — intends to grow its workforce substantially in the coming years. Currently employing about 11 lakh people, the conglomerate aims to bring the total number of jobs to approximately 15 lakh, driven by investments in future-focused sectors such as artificial intelligence and digital technologies.

He emphasised that this expansion will open doors for women and young job seekers across India, reinforcing the Group’s commitment to inclusive growth and skill development. The announcement aligns with broader initiatives within the Tata Group to boost manufacturing and services employment — including a separate earlier pledge to generate hundreds of thousands of manufacturing jobs over the next five years through new plants and technology investments.

Chandrasekaran also reiterated Tata’s enduring connection with Jamshedpur, the birthplace of Tata’s steel pioneering legacy, and highlighted continued investment plans totaling an estimated ₹11,000 crore in the region. He stated that such investments are expected to support economic development and catalyse further job creation locally.
