Chaibasa: Tata College has appointed a regular principal for the first time in nearly twenty years. The move aims to stabilize academic governance and revitalize the institution’s research environment.
Leadership Transition
Under the university’s new administrative orders, Amar Kumar takes over as the Principal of Tata College. He succeeds S.C. Das, whom the university transferred to Baharagora College on administrative grounds. Officials expect the Odia Department at Baharagora, which serves approximately 200 students, to benefit from Das’s extensive experience. The appointment was formalized under the directives of Kolhan University Vice-Chancellor Anjila Gupta.
Restoring a Legacy
University leadership views this appointment as a vital step toward improving academic standards. The new principal will prioritize several key areas:
- Research Culture: Strengthening the institution’s focus on academic inquiry.
- Teaching Quality: Enhancing the classroom experience for students across all departments.
- Institutional Performance: Restoring the college’s historic reputation for excellence.
Historical Significance
Established in 1954, Tata College predates the 1960 founding of Ranchi University, making it one of the oldest and most prestigious institutions in the Kolhan region. This long-awaited permanent appointment marks a strategic effort to consolidate administration and steer the college toward a new era of growth.
