Where the infant spirit learns through mind and sense

To read the letters of the cosmic spirit

And study the body of the cosmic self

And search for the secret meaning of the whole..

These lines from Sri Aurobindos great work Savitri had been lived by Tarun Ghosh, the Actor, Director, Screenwriter and Storywriter of many Hindi movies of the past era.

Born in Bengal in 1930s, in a Bengali family, Tarun went to find fortune in Bombay Film City at a very early age and after much struggle went on prospering with one after another successful movie, toured the world, enjoyed life, was actively into the silver screen world for more than 3 decades from 1966 to 1998, but all of a sudden took refuge in the spiritual lap.

Tarun Ghosh became the follower of Sri Ramkrishna Paramahansa Dev and came to live in Rishikesh in 2000. In between he went to Ottacamund in the South for some time and built a house in Chitrakoot, but in a short while shifted to Varanasi.  He adopted a daughter in Varanasi, named her Rita Ghosh, and ultimately shifted to Rishikesh in the year 2010 for good.

An introvert by nature, he did not speak much about his personal life and always said that he moved according to his Master, Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansas advice, kept meditating for hours and hours.  Even at the age of 93 years, Tarun Ghosh cooked for himself and avoided anything offered by others. I was astonished by his total demeanor when I met him in Rishikesh in 2018.

A down to earth personality who worked in  Hindi movies for 3 decades, to name a few, Khotey Sikkey (1998), Jeevan Yudh (1997), Bandhu (1992), Pyar Ka Saudagar (1991), Jhooti Shan (1991), Dushman (1990), Wafaa (1990), Madadgaar (1987), Sheesha (1986), Karm Yudh (1985), Aar Paar (1985), Phoolan Devi (1985), Navaratri (1983), Amanush (1975) and many more.

Tarun Ghosh worked as a Screenwriter and Actor in more than a dozen movies like  Krantikari (1997), Angaara (1996), Kasam Kanoon Ki (1992), Gajab Tamasha (1992), Shoorveer (1988). He wrote the story  and acted as well in Aakhri Insaaf (1980) that was highly applauded.

Some of the Bengali movies in which Tarun Ghosh acted was the famous Amanush (1975),Dalaal (1993), Bandhu (1992), Chottur Pratishodh (1990) and many more.

The prolific Actor of Khamoshi (1969) who lived a busy life till the age of 70,suddenly opted for the sublime path of self discovery and found it.

One of his very close associates, Vikas Gupta of Rishikesh says, Few relations transcend that of blood, Ghosh Dada was a part of our family and passed away today at the age of 93, after exploring nooks and corners of Bollywood and the world. He settled in Rishikesh, in our hearts. Nobody else could embrace the principle of Vasudaiva Kutumbakam as he did. Dada never married but the whole colony was like family to him. He is being deeply mourned for his demise but his moral ethics will remain etched in our hearts and in our practices.

I cannot resist from quoting this immortal line from Hrishi Aurobindos Savitri that observes, Men die that man may live and God be born.
