Tagore Society Jamshedpur commemorates 82nd Death Anniversary of Kobi Guru

Jamshedpur: The Tagore Society, a premium institution promoting art and culture in and around the city, observed the 82^nd Death Anniversary of Viswa Kobi, Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore.

The commemorative events commenced in the with a tree plantation program in the Rabindra Bhavan premises. The students of Tagore Academy flagged off the programme with the rendition of a welcome song. In his address, Tagore Society President, Dr HS Paul observed, “Rabindranath Tagore is considered a poet of nature, and his compositions beautifully capture its multi-hued essence. On his Death Anniversary too, people remember him for his literary creations that are timeless and relevant for all seasons and times.”

The morning session continued with presentations of Rabindra Sangeet to the accompaniment of dances by the Academy students. Tagore Society President, Dr HS Paul also unveiled the Wall Magazine on the occasion. The afternoon session was marked by a voluntary blood donation camp where teachers, parents and students of Tagore Academy were the donors.

The tree planting initiative received significant contributions from the Principal of Tagore Academy, Madhuchhanda Majumdar, Vice Principal Anita Paul, and the teachers.

In the evening, Tagore Society conducted a program, ‘Smritir Madhyame’ (In Memory) at Tagore School of Arts. The event included renditions of Rabindra Sangeet and recitations of his select poems.

The musical programme was directed by the Principal, Tagore School of Arts, Chandana Chowdhury. The team of musicians comprised Shyama Chakraborty (tabla), Saurabh Banerjee (keyboard), Abhra Chatterjee from Kolkata (guitar) and Amitabh Chatterjee (mandira).

The dignitaries present at the programme included Anindita Chakraborty, Amar Nath Mukherjee, Dr Arup Ratan Basu and Dr Somshankar Chowdhury.­

Speaking about the program, Ashis Chowdhury, the General Secretary of Tagore Society, mentioned that the primary objective of the event was to draw inspiration from Tagore’s compositions and remember him on his Death Anniversary. “Kobi Guru’s creations are perennially relevant. His incomparable creations depicting, seasons and moods are timeless and worth going back to time and again.”
