Jamshedpur, June 24: Nazrul Sandhya was organized by the Tagore Society at the Rabindra Bhawan on the occasion of rebel poet, Kazi Nazrul Islam’s 125th birth anniversary. The program commenced with the rendition of Nazrul songs by Sushmita Goswami and Shayantan Adhikari from Kolkata. Famous artistes from Jamshedpur, Anindita Gupta, and Shubhendu Roy Choudhary presented Kazi Nazrul’s compositions.
Shyama Prasad Chakraborty accompanied them on the tabla, Mukul Roy on the keyboard, Ashok Das on the flute, and Amitabh Chatterjee on the manjira. Giving information about this event,the General Secretary of Tagore Society, Ashis Chowdhury averred that Kazi Nazrul Islam was one of the famous rebellious poets of Bengal.He had rebelled against oppression and had composed nationalistic songs, which he sang himself.His songs came to be known as Nazrul Sangeet or Nazrul Geeti. He contributed immensely not only to the field of music but also literature. He has ruled the hearts of music lovers since the last century.
The program was organized as a tribute to a great litterateur, and also to make the younger generation appreciative of such a contributor to Bengali literature, culture, and history.
