Jamshedpur, Dec 7: Gulmohur High School celebrated its 51st Annual Sports Day at the Sumant Moolgaokar Stadium in Telco on Saturday. The event held special importance this year as the school achieved three major national recognitions in academics and technology practices.
Principal Priti Sinha was honoured with two prestigious awards — the Sri Sri Award for Best Teacher (East Zone) and the Derozio Award by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE). She is the first recipient of the Derozio Award from the Bihar–Jharkhand region. Additionally, the school received The National Edutech Award from The Economic Times for being an Outstanding Standalone School in Technology Practices.
The Chief Guest, Randhir Prasad, Chairman of the school’s Managing Committee, inaugurated the event. Sufian Jalali, Joint Secretary of the Managing Committee, was also present.
The programme began with a colourful march past by the four houses—Bhagat, Tata, Tagore, and Raman—led by Head Girl Ashi Kumari and Head Boy Ankit Singh. Students from Classes XI and IX showcased excellent discipline and coordination, upholding the school’s strong tradition in academics, sports, and co-curricular activities.
A key moment was the lighting of the Sports Torch. Top student athletes who have performed at CISCE regional and national levels in athletics, swimming, cricket, handball, basketball, karate, and archery participated in the torch relay. The Chief Guest also felicitated several national and state-level achievers, including Shreetirth Jogle (athletics), Tannu Kumari and Vishnu Prasad (archery), and Mayukh Mandal (swimming).
Energetic drill performances—Fit n Fun Fiesta by Primary students and Step Up Squad by Upper Primary—added vibrancy to the day. Track and field competitions, Tug-of-War, and a karate demonstration kept the audience cheering throughout.
