Jamshedpur: The long wait for the Intermediate Arts students was finally over as Jharkhand Education Minister Geeta Shree Oraon declared the JAC Intermediate Arts result at Jharkhand Academic Council Hall in Ranchi on Friday, May 30. Girls outshined boys as the state recorded 83.16 pass percentage breaking record of last nine years. 81.12 was the pass percentage in the year 2009.

The 2014 result was 10.24 percent higher than last year 2013. Lovely Sinku of Ursulain Inter College, Ranchi with 397 marks topped the state while Karu Murmu from Musabani Mines Inter College, Musabani topped East Singhbhum district along with the whole of Kolhan region and was placed 8th in the State.

Girls left behind boys in the performance. The pass percentage of arts in Kolhan stood 83.99 per cent for boys and 85.90 per cent for girls. Kolhan comprises of three districts–East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharswan.

East Singhbhum’s pass percentage this year was 87.66 per cent where 86.28 boys passed as compared to 88.51 per cent girls. Last year the pass percentage in East Singhbhum was 69.77 per cent for boys and 74.53 per cent for girls.

Karu Murmu with 378 marks from Musabani Mines Inter College stood first in the district while Sweta Kumari with 366 marks from Shyama Prasad Inter College, Jamshedpur stood second. Sweety Biruli with 359 marks from Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya stood third.

In the city, Sweta stood the topper followed by Afsana Perween from Central Karimia High School with 361 marks and Ankit Kumar Sharma stood third with 353 marks from Karim City College.

The district superintendent, Indu Bhushan Singh expressed happiness over the performance of the students and said that the students have done quite well this year

�I am not at all happy with my performance. I was expecting more than 70 per cent marks but I had to satisfy with 50 per cent. It�s really shocking,� said Mridula Mukherjee, a student. She further said that the arts have never been scoring but they never expected such marks.

Total of 1,68, 324 candidates had applied throughout the state for the examination of which 166 515 were included in the test. Total 138 476 examinees have passed the exam. 10 393 holded the first class rank, 96 697 were second while 31 385 were in the third place. On the ocassion Geeta shree Oraon said that the department would provide all possible help to students so they could study further and better. JAC Chairman Dr. Anand Bhushan said the improvement in the result was because the council made great efforts to improve results this year. Examiners worshop were conducted, all districts were visited.

In the presence of JAC Chairman Dr. Anand Bhushan, Secondary education director Praveen Toppo, Vice-president Dr Abdul Subhan, Secretary Sushil Roy, Joint Secretary Arvind Jha and other staffs.
