Jamshedpur, July 26: In a sensational incident, Police Inspector Manoj Gupta shot three persons including his wife with his service gun at Navlakha Apartment in Sonari on Friday. One of the victims, Seema Devi, mother of Chandan, the alleged paramour of the Inspectors wife Poonam Gupta, died at the scene. The other two victims, Chandan and Poonam Gupta were taken to TMH where the latters condition was reportedly critical.

Sources said Poonam sustained two bullet wounds. One bullet escaped her body after piercing the abdomen while the other hit her leg. Chandans condition was reportedly out of danger, sources said.

Cops said the entire incident was captured in a CCTV camera installed at the apartment. After committing the crime, the Inspector ran away from the crime scene.

According to SSP Anoop Birtharay, The incident appears to be the incident of an over 15 year old family dispute. Poonam Gupta had lodged a case of torture and cruelty against her husband with the Sonari PS. An investigation is on to find out further details.

Sources said Poonam Gupta returned to her Sonari residence from Patna this morning. Along with her, her alleged boyfriend Chandan and his mother Seema Devi also came to Jamshedpur. The three went up to Poonams apartment around 8.11 am.

On seeing Chandan and his mother along with Poonam, Manoj lost his temper. He took out his service revolver and shot the three. He ran down and escaped from the building.

Chandan, also a resident of Mithapur in Patna, knew Poonam for a long time, sources said.

Hearing gunshots, local residents rushed to the scene, only to be shocked by what lay inside. They informed police about the incident.

Sources said Manoj Gupta was posted at Gudri police station of West Singhbhum and he was suspended reportedly on a complaint filed by his wife.

West Singhbhum SP had ordered Guptas arrest following his suspension. Gupta had applied for sick leave and left West Singhbhum on 19th July last. He was earlier posted in Jamshedpur. He is the father of a son and two daughters.

According to Kailash Devi, mother-in-law of Manoj Gupta, My son-in-law often beat his wife and children. This is why my daughter had gone to Patna. He was trying to persuade her to come back.

My daughter had returned to Jamshedpur for settling the matter amicably. But Manoj ended all possibilities by committing the crime.

Kailash Devi said Chandan is not her daughters boyfriend, but just like her brother.
