Jamshedpur: A speeding truck crushed two students to death in Sundernagar on Saturday night, sparking violent protests and a massive road blockade by local residents.
The Fatal Collision
The tragedy occurred on the Sundernagar main road when a truck (JH02N-3622) rammed into a motorcycle (JH05 DZ 8057). The impact killed both riders—identified as Durga Hembram (15) and Marshal Soren (14)—instantly.
Villagers React with Fury
The accident triggered immediate outrage. Villagers rushed to the scene and caught the truck driver as he attempted to flee. The mob detained the driver and vandalized the vehicle, smashing its windshield and bodywork.
To demand justice, protesters placed the students’ bodies across the Sundernagar–Jamshedpur stretch. The blockade paralyzed traffic for several hours, leaving long queues of vehicles stranded on both sides.
Key Demands
The grieving community has called for:
- Strict legal action and the formal arrest of the driver.
- Immediate financial compensation for the victims’ families.
- Safety measures, including speed breakers and stricter monitoring of heavy vehicles in the area.
Police Response
Sundernagar police arrived shortly after the crash to pacify the crowd. By Sunday, senior officials joined the negotiations to restore order.
“We have deployed heavy police forces to prevent further escalation,” a senior officer stated. “The bodies are undergoing post-mortem examination, and we have registered a case against both the driver and the truck owner.”
Police confirmed that a full investigation into the incident is currently underway.
