Jamshedpur, May 5: With entire Jharkhand sizzling under a blistering heat-wave, summer vacation has started in the private schools of Jamshedpur from Saturday, May 6.
Friday was the last working day and students seemed relieved as the dismissal bell rang today. Now children are all set to enjoy the long summer vacation. Earlier the schools had changed the timings following the order from the DC after the temperature was hovering around 42 degrees Celsius.
The extra classes will run for students of classes X, XI and XII. Most Jamshedpur schools will hold extra classes during at least one week of the summer holidays. In most Jamshedpur schools, summer vacations would start from May 6 and continue till June 15. Special classes from 7am to 10am would be held for students of Classes X and XII during vacations from May 6 to 12.
Sacred Heart Convent School, Narbheram Hansraj English School, Carmel Junior College, ADLS Sunshine School and Vidya Bharti Chinmaya Vidyalaya etc are some of the schools who have decided to hold the extra classes.
Several senior class students had to cancel their trips as the schools have decided to hold extra classes.
‘We had planned to visit Shimla-Manali and the tickets were booked three months in advance but due to extra classes entire family has cancelled the trip to the hills’, said Ankit Kumar, a class 11 student of KPS Kadma, awaiting his ICSE board exam result.
‘As the temperature is rising with every passing day, the summer vacation in the schools will bring relief to the students’, said a parent Anuradha Jaiswal whose daughter studies in grade 6 of Narbheram Hansraj English School.
‘Coming out of home or office in the afternoons is very difficult and the situation becomes worse for tinytots to go home from the school in this scorching heat. I’ happy that summer vacations have started which will bring huge relief for the students’, said Suresh Agarwal, a industrialist whose son studies in class 3 of Tagore Academy.
Meanwhile, it is the season of summer camps as most schools in the city are closed for vacation. Schools, independent groups and organizations are holding camps for children under every conceivable category.
While there are parents who wait for these camps to begin so that they can admit their kids, there are those who believe that these are nothing but a money-making proposition. They argue that the children receive the same training in schools all through the academic year.
