Ranchi, July 5: After getting the degree, your real test will begin and students should think what is the use and what it means to get a degree, said Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan while addressing the 30th Convocation of Ranchi University (RU)in Ranchi on Tuesday.

Present as the chief guest at the function, Lak Sabha speaker handed over degrees to 2931 students while 99 students received gold medals including 63 girls.

On the occasion Sumitra Mahajan said, ‘The future India will be Youth India’. By getting a degree in convocation is not enough, you will have to provide support for the development of the society.

‘Students should focus on imaginativeness but today everything is available online and students download any picture from the Google search engine which is developing lack of imaginativeness in them’, said the speaker, adding, ‘students should be encouraged to develop a world of self-developed intelligence and imagination’.

Sumitra Mahajan called upon students to take advantage of initiatives like Startup India and Skill India and do something new for the society.

Mahajan stressed upon the need of imagination in education but regretted this quality was on decline following rise in online facilities.

She was addressing the 30th Convocation of the Ranchi University here.

“Imagination is more important than knowledge,” She quoted Albert Einstein.

Mahajan suggested new entrepreneurs should invent such a machine that could separate plastic materials from garbage.
Appealing youths to utilise their knowledge for the development of the society, Mahajan said they have an important role to play in achieving development goal.

The Speaker said utilisation of education was not just for getting “package” but to secure knowledge.

She said it was not just a matter of taking a title at convocation but a need to contribute towards society.

Mahajan said she would not say one should go to village after attaining higher education by compulsion but one does have a responsibility to share his efficiency with people of his region.
